The winners of the Goodreads Choice Awards have been announced, with Emilia Hart, Emily Henry, and Rebecca Yarros among the authors taking home the prizes voted on by members of the website where readers share book recommendations.
Hart won in two categories for her novel Weyward: best debut novel and best historical fiction. Hart’s book, a New York Times bestseller, follows three generations of women in an English village who have the ability to communicate with animals.
Henry took home the best romance prize for Happy Place. This is the third consecutive win in the category for Henry, who was previously honored for People We Meet on Vacation and Book Lovers.
Yarros’ phenomenally successful Fourth Wing won the first-ever award for romantasy, a new coinage for the genre that blends romance and fantasy. R.F. Kuang took home the best fiction award for her publishing satire, Yellowface.
The Housemaid's Secret by Freida McFadden was the winner in the best mystery and thriller category, while Leigh Bardugo took home the best fantasy award for Hell Bent. T.J. Klune prevailed in the science fiction category for In the Lives of Puppets, while Stephen King won his 10th Goodreads Choice Award, this time in the horror category, for Holly.
Pop star Britney Spears won the prize for best memoir and autobiography for her bestselling The Woman in Me, while David Grann was named the winner in the best history and biography category for The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder.
